Show du 6 sept.
Barenaked Ladies singer no 'Idol'
TORONTO (CP) - Even though his band is lending its skills to Canadian Idol, Steven Page of the Barenaked Ladies says he would have never made it past the first round of competition.
"Guys like me would not make it unless we changed our singing style," said the singer-songwriter between workshops with the remaining three hopefuls Friday. "It's more about showbiz." The charismatic singer recalled auditioning for an Idol-style competition as a teenager at Canada's Wonderland, an amusement park north of Toronto.
He was rejected.
Page said judges usually look for a particular archetype who "always sound like Mariah Carey."
So why is he participating in the show? Page says the Canadian Idol brand is more inclusive in the type of singers it showcases.
"I really feel like they're getting a true piece of who these people are," he said.
Songs from the Ladies repertoire will be featured on next week's show, the semifinal round of the popular singing contest.
Rex Goudie of Burlington, N.L., Melissa O'Neil of Calgary and Aaron Walpole of St. Thomas, Ont., are duking it out for the Idol title.
A winner will be crowned on Sept. 14.

Melissa..rien a reprocher. J'ai aimé ces deux performances..et comme le dirait Zack..*you're it and that's all that matters*
