The Blog
Day 1. I just want to sleep, my guardian and friend Rachel is running everywhere and she's trying to catch a bird (Mouette). And I don't have the song yet for my audition tomorrow.
Day 2. I found my song in the bus on the way to the audition stage. Everybody is so amazing. I did Le Disko by Shiny Toy Guns.
Day 3. I was kicked out of my group, so I did Kiss Me alone, thank you Mooky for trying to help me. I got to sleep at 3 o'clock in the morning and woke up at 6 a.m. I just want to sleep.
Day 4. I did my duet audition with Derek. That was so amazing. Thanks Derek. We did "You and Me" of Lifehouse. I eat poutine, but the Québec poutine is better.
Day 5. Ahh. I forgot all the lyrics of the Breakaway song of Kelly Clarkson so I did This Ain't a Scene of Fall Out Boy.
Day 6. Night: I handcuff Derek and Rachel together because me and Rachel don't want to take a $10 cab for ten minutes of walking. But we take a cab cuz I tell Derek I lost the key so he wanted to go to the hotel to cut it off. But I have the keys.
Day 7. Photoshoot time
Day 8. Day off, sleep sleep sleep sleep and a little jam party with the other Idols.
Day 9. I'm going back home.
P.S. Hey le Québec, euhhh, c'es quoi qui se passé, de bon. Ha poitine icitte est pas vraiment bonne. En tout cas, on se reparle Québec.

Alanis Morissette once wrote "Life has a funny way helping you out" - isn't it ironic?
I was 15, listening on and on to this song, one of my favourites on Jagged Little Pill's album, never really getting the lyrics- because nothing really ironic has never happened to me at this time. Music comes, music goes, but classics remain. I'm 25 now- ten years later, and yeah, I can agree with her now that Life has a funny way helping you out. A month ago, I didn't know I would be here today, in Toronto, an unknown city, meeting new people, and living one of the most thrilling experiences of my life. One month ago, I was Maud, and I'm still Maud. But my life has changed a little bit.
It all happened on a snowy stormy Thursday April 12th evening. Everyone in the radio station where I work was gathered in a restaurant to celebrate our surveys results. We kicked butts and we were proud of it. Before going to the restaurant, my boss told me that he forgot to mention me about Canadian Idol's auditions. Since I'm not a big TV fan, (my own TV's at my friend's house for almost a year now) I wasn't aware at all about those auditions. He told me that the last auditions were in Toronto, April 14th and 15th- and that I should really go. I wasn't very convinced, I love taking risks, but I had no money to pay for the travel/hotel it would have cost me. Once arrived at the restaurant, everyone started to scream "Maud's going to audition for Canadian Idol!!!" and all put 20$ on the table. I had no choice but to go, since money wasn't an issue anymore. Sometimes, life can really surprise you- I didn't know what would happen, but I was glad to decide to go, on such short notice, not even prepared! Go hard or go home!
April 14th, I was on Dundas Square, with many hopefuls. Many talents, many great personalities. I was scared, of course, but I kept reminding me something my friend Phil (with who I play and compose music back home) sent me in a text message "Remember, fear kills spirit". It was like I followed my Master's advice, and put fear aside. I was here for fun, I was here to have something cool to tell on Monday- but I had no idea what was coming for me. I got a yellow ticket after performing 3 songs on the first audition. They told me I'd have to come back again next morning, to audition for the blue ticket. So Sunday morning, I was waiting for my turn to come, with a friend, Ryan. We met another guy, Mark. He had a guitar as well, so we decided to play together. A great vibe was floating above us, it felt so right! I gave my email address to Mark so we could stay in touch. Audition went not very well- I was asked to perform accapella and wasn't prepared for this. At my big surprise, I got a blue ticket and got invited to audition for the gold ticket the week after. It all went so fast for me, but I love the rush of not knowing what's next!!
I hung out with Mark on Friday April 20th, our audition day for the gold ticket- He's a great friend and I'm sure we're gonna stay in touch for a long time! We were there at 7:30am, and finally got a chance to meet the judges. It was a long day and I auditioned at 6:45pm. I've never auditioned for anything before that whole experience. I can't believe I wasn't much more frightened. It was a big deal, and I was very relaxed.
A week after receiving my gold ticket, it was the Top196 auditions. All people who had received gold tickets all across Canada were gathered to audition for Top22 in Toronto. That's where I met Angela, my hotel roommate! She's been a real friend through all this journey and we hung out together a lot. We arrived on Monday at the hotel, but the auditions started Tuesday. I'm trying to explain it as fast as I can, because I could definitely write a mini-book about this amazing experience. Day 1, the judges eliminated 76 people. On the next day, we would have to audition in same-sex groups. By the end of the day, 44 were eliminated. The 76 remaining had to group in pairs and had to do a duet. So on Day 3, we were 76 left auditioning. By the end of the day, the judges eliminated 30 talented persons. On Friday morning, we were 46 left to audition, asked to perform accapella for the last audition. The goal was to choose 22 young artists all across Canada, who'd be Canadian Idol 2007's Top22. The judges invited every 46 contestants left to meet them in the amphitheatre, sometimes in group of 2, sometimes in group of 3- and even sometimes, they were invited to meet them all alone. I've been invited to meet them with 2 other persons. Zach said to the girl right next to me that even though she had an amazing voice, great looks and a charismatic personality, she had to go back home.
Then he turned to Levy, the guy who was standing next to her, with me, and told him that he had a great presence but was going home as well. To be honest, I was convinced I also had to go back home, so I wasn't very disappointed. I had made it this far and I was proud of it. But then Zach looked at me and said "Maud - what can I say?-. Welcome in Top22!!!!" I was so surprised that I had no reaction at all, and I have to admit that I did not believe him! I was sure I was going home.
Now I'm back in my world, with my friends and family, preparing myself to go back again, keeping it a secret so everyone can be as surprised as I was when Zach told me I'd be on the show- Back to work, at the office, with lots of paperwork to do, that has nothing to do with Canadian Idol. My colleagues at work asked me how were my vacations, and I kept answering with a big smile that those were the best vacations ever. I can't stop sleeping, I'm still so tired (I slept 8 hours over those 5 audition days) and I've been through so many different emotions.
Now I have to stay focused, focused on what really makes me feel alive: this rush, this energy, this feeling to feel proud because I left the fear of what people may think of me behind. Because when you expose yourself in front of people, if 1 person likes you, be prepared to accept that 10 won't. It's a reality in music and show business. I'm not saying that I'm going be a hyper famous person, but I'd rather be down to earth about reality. I've hurt too many walls in this life! I know this experience is a huge launching pad, and I'm prepared to spread my wings and flyyyyy!!! See you soon!! J

Idol journey begins as joke for self-taught guitarist
Montana
Age: 16
Saint-Julienne, Que.
“‘I’m in Canadian Idol?’ It’s a joke. It’s not true.”

Montana Martin Iles, one of Canadian Idol’s Top 22 competitors, said her Idol experience began as a joke she shared with one of her friends.
“My friend kept saying to me, ‘If you go to Canadian Idol you’re not going to be chosen,’ and I kept saying, ‘Watch, they are going to choose me,’ ” said Martin Iles. “But I didn’t believe it.”
The teenager travelled from her hometown of Saint-Julienne, Que., to Montreal for the audition and was surprised when she was given a gold ticket to go to Toronto.
“It was like a punch in my face. I kept saying, ‘I’m in Canadian Idol?’ It’s a joke. It’s not true,” said Martin Iles.
The high school student taught herself how to play the guitar five years ago and since then has been writing her own music.
“I’ve got original songs. I write about what happens in my life,” said Martin Iles. “I can write about what I did yesterday or what I think about and what I like.”
Martin Iles, who was named after a superhero from a book her mom had read, also learned how to skateboard five years ago; her cousin Joseph gave Martin Iles her first skateboard.
“I do just basic tricks. I don’t do anything big,” said Martin Iles. “It’s like my car. I use it to go from Point A to Point B.”
Martin Iles said she is going to practise skateboarding in Toronto whenever she has free time.
The young singer would also like to explore as much of Toronto as possible because she hasn’t spent much time in the city since she was a child.
“I want to go see Shiny Toy Guns at the Mod Club and other bands and clubs in the area,” said Martin Iles. “A lot of bands don’t come to Montreal but they come to Toronto.”
Now Martin Iles will be the one performing for fans.
“I’m excited to give a live show,” said Martin Iles. “That is what I like — to be on stage and give what I can give to Canada.”
