Je dirais la saison 1 parce que les choix de chansons sont très bon pour pas mal tout le monde, et surtout paske y a plein de chanson de Kelly desus! Et y a Tamyra qui chante "A house is not a home"...

American Idol

Title: "Season 5 Encores"

Label: RCA

Rating: 2½

AMERICAN IDOL
This is what we learn from the top 12 "American Idol" contestants: Mandisa and Paris Bennett deserve formidable careers to match their robust pipes, Taylor Hicks' Michael McDonald impersonation is uncanny and Elliott Yamin will thrive once he gets in a studio.

Of course, we're also reminded of Ace Young's superficiality ("I can't wait to throw you a beanie from the stage!" he promises to fans all around the land in the liner notes) and are treated to his lightweight interpretation of George Michael's "Father Figure." But hey, he's pretty, so he's bound to have a career somewhere on the CW network.

Far more excruciating than Young are Bucky Covington ("Superstition") and Kellie Pickler ("Walkin' After Midnight"). That these two outlasted the infinitely more talented Mandisa is a travesty.

Not that there is anything wrong with Covington injecting the Stevie Wonder classic with some country twang, but the guy just isn't a dynamic vocalist and sounds flat throughout the song. Pickler, meanwhile, attempts sultriness, but her voice is always either dipping too deep or reaching to screech.

Despite some obvious results (Kevin Covais, please spare us the love songs; Katharine McPhee, you're a pleasant singer, but don't even bother trying to sing Aretha; Melissa McGhee . . . who are you, again?), it's Lisa Tucker who is surprisingly great with her strong and saucy "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)." Chris Daughtry proves his rock mettle with Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive," but one suggestion for the fledgling rocker -- aping every nuance of the original is never wise.

As for Yamin, he and Hicks sound the most mature and comfortable, their ease apparent in their smooth deliveries -- Yamin with "Moody's Mood for Love" and Hicks with "Takin' It to the Streets."

Are they the best from this recently ended season? Well, America thought so about one of them. But even though personal preferences will always cloud reality, there is little argument -- Mandisa excluded -- that those who went the farthest deserved to be there.

'American Idol' CD storms charts
Daughtry, Hicks also on singles chart
Zap2it.com

Taylor Hicks' single "Do I Make You Proud" will go on sale next week, after which he'll probably join his fellow "American Idol" winners as the owner of a No. 1 record. This week, though, one of his fellow finalists has the honor of the highest-charting season five contestant.

That would be Chris Daughtry, whose cover of Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive" enters the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart at No. 43. Hicks' version of the Doobie Brothers' "Taking It to the Streets" checks in at No. 69. Position on the singles chart is based on airplay and sales, digital and otherwise.

Both songs are on the "American Idol Season 5: Encores" CD, which entered the Billboard 200 album chart at No. 3 this week. The compilation featuring tracks by this year's finalists sold close to 154,000 copies, the highest first-week sales ever for an "Idol" collection. The previous record holder was the season one compilation, which sold 146,000 copies in its first week.

"Encores" trails the Dixie Chicks' new album, "Taking the Long Way," and another TV-fueled phenomenon, the "High School Musical" soundtrack, on the Billboard 200.

Daughtry and Hicks are also in the top 40 on the Hot Digital Tracks chart, with Daughtry coming in at No. 16 and Hicks in 38th. Hicks' "Do I Make You Proud" is also No. 21 on the Adult Contemporary chart and will likely rise once it goes on sale.

Songs from the "Encores" CD by Elliott Yamin and runner-up Katharine McPhee made the Pop 100 chart.
