Topic Officiel SPOILER! American Idol 7!!!
Citation :American Idol: A Sharp, a Flat, and Mariah Carey Song Choices
American Idol JLynn writes
Apparently, they are REALLY singing Mariah songs and only Mariah songs, seriously. This has the potential to be the biggest train wreck in Idol history, and I’m going to be in ENGLAND! Don’t worry, I’ll recap when I get back. For now, let’s figure out if there is anything Jason Castro can sing…..
Contestants usually get ostracized for singing Whitney or Mariah, and now they HAVE to sing Mariah! Randy’s comments are sure to be obnoxious this week, and the judges really can’t complain. “Sorry, that was a terrible song choice, you should have picked the OTHER song where she belts to an F and than jumps 2 octaves, not THIS one where she belts to an F and jumps 2 octaves.” Yeah, it’s not gonna fly. In general, Mariah has two types of songs: sweeping ballads and crappy hip-hop tinged up-tempos. I have heard that it is just her #1s, but I have also heard that Carly is taking on “Without You,” which is not on her #1s, so it’s anyone’s best guess. However, when you delve deeper into her music, there’s a bit more to it. The subcategories:
SWEEPING BALLADS:
(1) Uplifting
a. solos
1. “Hero”
2. “Anytime you need a Friend”
3. “Butterfly”
4. “Through the Rain”
5. “I Still Believe”
6. “So Blessed”
7. “Can’t Take That Away From Me”
8. “Sunflowers”
9. “My Saving Grace”
b. duets
1. “One Sweet Day”
2. “I’ll Be There”
3. “Thank God I Found You”
(2) Dramatic
a. solos
1. “I Don’t Wanna Cry”
2. “Love Takes Time”
3. “Without You”
4. “Never Forget You”
5. “My All”
6. “Forever”
7. “Can’t Let Go”
b. duets
1. “Whenever You Call”
2. “I Believe”
UP-TEMPO:
(1) Throw back-esque style/90s/Mid-Tempo
a. With whistle register
1. “Vision of Love”
2. “Emotions”
3. “Fantasy”
4. “You’re So Cold”
b. Without whistle register
1. “Someday”
2. “Dreamlover”
3. “Always Been My Baby’
4. “We Belong Together”
5. “It’s Like That”
6. “Don’t Forget About Us”
7. “Stay the Night”
8. “Make it Happen”
(2) Kinda crappy
a. With guest
1. “Breakdown”
2. “Heartbreaker”
3. “Cry Baby”
4. “Boy I Need You”
5. “Touch My Body”
b. Solo
1. “Honey”
2. “Shake it Off”
3. “The One”
It is possible the boys may try to cheat with “Open Arms,” Bringin’ on the Heartbreak,” or “Against All Odds.” All songs which she covered a male artist’s version. “Without You” was recorded by a male first, and obviously “I’ll Be There” had previously been recorded by the Jackson 5. I think it would be idiotic for anyone to rehash “Against All Odds” AGAIN this season, and “Open Arms” has been overdone as well. David Cook might go for “Bringin’ on the Heartbreak” if he’s allowed.
(1) David Archuleta
Worst Case Scenario: He goes totally safe and sings “Open Arms,” or worse yet “Against all Odds,” but because he is David Archuleta, he completely gets away with it.
Best Case Scenario: He pulls of a beautiful version of “One Sweet Day” and harmonized wonderfully with the background vocalists. OR, he sings “Can’t Take That Away From Me” while accompanying himself on the piano.
Big Risk: He fends of Mariah AND Michael comparisons and takes on, “I’ll Be There.” Honestly, as long as he DOES NOT sing “Hero,” I’m happy.
(2) David Cook
Worst Case Scenario: He gets scared and just does the original version of “Bringin on the Heartbreak,” so he doesn’t have to figure out a new arrangement to “Honey.”
Best Case Scenario: He rocks out “It’s Like That,” or he says screw it, and knowing he has a better range than half the girls, sings “I Still Believe” acapella.
Big Risk: Doing something stupid like singing, GOD HELP US ALL, “Against All Odds,” in which case I am no longer a David Cook fan.
(3) Brooke White
Worst Case Scenario: She takes “Hero” to the piano and makes me gag.
Best Case Scenario: A folksy “Always Be My Baby,” or “Butterfly.”
Big Risk: Because it is more obscure, “Sunflowers” would be risky, but it fits Brooke’s tone the best and doesn’t use a gigantic range, which Brooke does not have. She can also play a sweet, simple piano part along with it. This would probably be the best choice for her.
(4) Kristy Lee Cook
Worst Case Scenario: Basically, anyone singing “Hero.” Or god help us, she attempts to belt out a song like “My All.”
Best Case Scenario: She manages one of the uplifting ballads like, “So Blessed” or “My Saving Grace.”
Big Risk: Pulling a Haley Scarnato, and singing “Dreamlover” or “Fantasy” in hot pants.
(5) Syesha Mercado
Worst Case Scenario: She follows up “I Believe” from last week with a resounding “I Still Believe,” or “Believe” this week.
Best Case Scenario: She pulls out the funk with the lesser known “You’re so Cold,” or busts out the more modern, “We Belong Together.”
Big Risk: She sings the crap out of “My All,” which is my personal favorite Mariah ballad.
(6) Carly Smithson
Worst Case Scenario: Rumor has it, she is singing “Without You” at Simon’s suggestion. I call this worst cased, cause Kelly owned this, and I would have much rather heard Carly on something different.
Best Case Scenario: She ignores Simon and takes on “My All.”
Big Risk: She fights the urge to a ballad and whips out a crazy “Emotions,” or “Vision of Love.”
(7) Jason Castro
Worst Case Scenario: He chickens out and strums a folksy “Against All Odds.”
Best Case Scenario: He manages to steal “Always Be My Baby” or “Sunflowers” from Brooke and HE gets to do a folksy version of it.
Big Risk: Pulling out all the stops and actually belting a high-oh wait, just kidding, I mean creating a 6 note ranged folk version of any of Mariah’s songs.
There you have it. This should be an interesting week, and I will look forward to hearing the performances when I’m back in the states!!!!

David A: "I'll Be There" ou "One Sweet Day"
David C: "My All" ou "Someday"
Carly: "Without You" Duh!
Jason: "My All" ou "Butterfly"
Brooke: "Always Be My Baby" ou "Butterfly"
Syesha: "Emotion" ou "Someday"
Kristy: "Love Takes Time" ou "Can't Let Go"
SVP, pas de Against All Odds!

Carly Smithson -- "Without You"
Kelly Clarkson était écoeurante sur cette chanson.
Brooke White -- "Hero"

Jason Castro -- "I Don't Wanna Cry"

David Cook -- "Always Be My Baby"
Carly Smithson -- "Without You"
Brooke White -- "Hero"
Jason Castro -- "I Don't Wanna Cry"
Kristy Lee Cook -- "Forever"
On va voir.
David Archuleta -- "When You Believe"
Je voulais qu'il fasse "I'll Be There"!
