A true "All-American Girl," Underwood is no stranger to having her career presented on television after capturing the hearts of many fans during the fourth season of American Idol. Her astounding vocals and decision to pursue a career in the country genre resonated throughout the nation. Just two weeks after winning the talent competition, she made her Grand Ole Opry performance debut, fulfilling the dreams she had as a child to perform there. Earlier this spring, while performing during another televised broadcast of the Opry, the legendary Randy Travis, whose single, "I Told You So," Underwood reprised on her second double-platinum album, Carnival Ride, would fulfill the second part of her dreams concerning the Opry by surprising her with an invitation to become a member.
Before catching the LIVE performances of Underwood and a cast of other BIG artists scheduled for an induction of this proportion, viewers will get a one-of-a-kind look at an artist preparing for a once-in-a-lifetime moment with the premiere of "Road to the Opry: Carrie Underwood" (May 10, 7:30 pm ET). On the eve of becoming the newest member of the hallowed Grand Ole Opry, Underwood sits down for an exclusive interview to discuss her life, career and amazing journey. Highlighted by some of her most powerful Opry performances, this half-hour special features interviews with Underwood's mother, Carole, as well as Opry members Vince Gill, Little Jimmy Dickens and Randy Travis.

Adding another notch on her I'm-way-more-successful-than-Kelly-Clarkson belt, country music sweetheart Carrie Underwood was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry Saturday night.
The American Idol season four champion and three-time Grammy Award-winning singer told the sold-out crowd, "This really seems like a great family to be part of. I promise I'll do everything I possibly can to not make you regret it."
Country music star and Opry member Garth Brooks presented the award to Underwood, who is the current Female Vocalist of the Year for the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association. He told her, "Nothing will last as long or be more important than this award right here tonight. Congratulations."
Membership to the Opry is invitation-only and based on the artist's commitment to the show and overall contribution to country music. Underwood, 25, made her debut on the 83-year-old radio program in 2005, just two weeks after winning Idol. She's currently on the road headlining her Carnival Ride Tour.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Carrie Underwood is the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry. The singer joined the cast of the long-running country music show Saturday. Garth Brooks handled her formal induction and Vince Gill sang a duet with her.
"This really seems like a great family to be part of," Underwood said, as she fought back tears. "I promise I'll do everything I possibly can to not make you regret it."
The former "American Idol" winner sold 7 million copies of her debut album "Some Hearts" and shot to superstardom almost overnight with hits including "Before He Cheats" and "Jesus, Take the Wheel."
Her follow-up album, "Carnival Ride," came out last fall and has produced two No. 1s: "So Small" and "All-American Girl."
Brooks, who presented her with the induction award — a 14-inch bronze replica of an Opry microphone stand — told her, "Nothing will last as long or be as important as this award right here."
"Being around you five minutes, I can see you get it. In coming from Oklahoma, I know you're sharp as a wit." Brooks, like Underwood, is an Oklahoma native.
The 25-year-old Underwood becomes the latest young addition to the Opry cast in recent years, joining Brad Paisley, Josh Turner and Dierks Bentley.
The Opry, established in 1925, is the longest continuously running radio show in the country. Legends such as Hank Williams Sr. and Patsy Cline were once members of the cast, and contemporary stars including Alan Jackson and Martina McBride are part of today's show, which airs every Friday and Saturday night on WSM-AM.
Opry management says artists are invited to join based on their commitment to the show, as measured by the frequency of their guest appearances, and their overall contribution to country music.
