David Archuleta's Father Is Taking Stage Parenting to a Whole New Archu-Level
Photo: Getty Images
Yesterday, we wondered how American Idol front-runner David Archuleta got to be such a strong contender. And now we know — he has a crazy overbearing stage dad! Allegedly! Entertainment Tonight is reporting that Archuleta's less-than-perfect performance of "We Can Work It Out" on Tuesday's episode may have been the result of an argument with his father on Monday. Purportedly unimpressed with the subpar quality of his son's singing, Jeff Archuleta "yelled at David during a recording session … and even brought him to tears."
According to blog L.A. Rag Mag, this isn't the first time Jeff's lost his temper. Citing a "reliable source," they say he harassed several other contestants when David was competing on Star Search in 2003, and was eventually banned from the set after making intimidating phone calls to some poor 12-year-old girl (she eventually beat David on the show).
Sure, you can probably argue with his methods, but there's no denying that the guy gets results. Through some magic (and alleged!) combination of shouting, shaming, and forced ambition, he's managed to create the greatest American Idol contestant in the show's seven-year history. When was the last time we truly saw a stage parent of this caliber? Murry Wilson? Joseph Jackson? It's almost sad to think about all those movies and TV shows ruined by less-talented children whose parents hadn't been nearly so vigilant and/or domineering. Jeff Archuleta, Vulture salutes you!

JOYEUX NOEL ET BONNE ANNÉE 2009!!!!
Citation : David Archuleta: CUTEBOT-5000 gets a free pass this week, seeing as how "Entertainment Tonight" and others are reporting his meanie stage dad was screaming at him all day Tuesday, which is probably why his performance fell apart. Poor David. I really do feel awful now. But during the group sing Wednesday, I realized that he totally should have sung "Can't Buy Me Love" instead of "We Can Work it Out." Better luck next week.

JOYEUX NOEL ET BONNE ANNÉE 2009!!!!
Citation :Jeff Archuleta’s strong support for son David is “overly exaggerated”!
father2.jpg
Sources tell FAN BLAST that this so-called “Stage Dad” accusation is a complete exaggeration! David Archuleta’s dad Jeff is obviously a very huge supporter of his son and that maybe his strong support for David is being misconstrued as extreme or something out of the ordinary.
Even producers of American Idol are being respectful to the Archuleta family by taking a “no comment” stance as they do in all family matters involving contestants.
Fellow classmates at Murray High School in his homestate of Utah, are quick to rally in support of David and claim that the Archuleta family is genuine and real.
Like they told us “don’t believe everything you hear”, it just might be a slow day for the tabloids to make things up on what most believe to be a pretty normal relationship between a very close father and his gifted son.

JOYEUX NOEL ET BONNE ANNÉE 2009!!!!
Who are your musical influences? Natalie Cole, Stevie Wonder, Kirk Franklin, Bryan Adams.
If you have 24 hours to do whatever you wanted, what would you do? Probably go to Disneyworld with my family or something-spend quality time with them.
Who is the person that you would most like to meet? It'd be pretty cool to meet Stevie Wonder.
Who has been your favorite Idol thus far?
I really don't have a favorite. Kelly was really inspiring since she was the first, but the rest of them are fun to listen to as well.
If you could sing/perform in any venue, where would you perform? The Olympics would be awesome.
What was the first concert you attended? I went to a medal ceremony of the Olympics & *NSYNC performed at it.
Where do you draw inspiration from? My faith and my family.
When were you happiest and why? Some of the greatest memories I have are just being with all my family and having a great time.
What advice do you have for future contestants? Remember to be yourself and remember throughout everything why you first wanted to do this.
What do you think gives you the edge in this competiion? Being who I am and loving what I'm doing.

Citation :DAVID ARCHULETA SIGNS TO JIVE RECORDS
(New York, NY) - It was announced today that American Idol sensation David Archuleta has signed to 19 Recordings/Jive Records. Archuleta is currently gearing up for the upcoming American Idol tour which kicks off on July 1st in Glendale, AZ. The 17-year old is expected to release his debut album later this year.
"Signing a record contract with 19 Recordings/Jive Records is truly a dream come true," states Archuleta. "Being a fan of American Idol since season one and admiring the alumni, I am honored and humbled to be a part of that group. I'm really excited to start working on everything."
David Archuleta, the runner-up on the current season of "American Idol," has three songs entering the Hot 100 this week, starting with his stunning remake of John Lennon's "Imagine" at No. 36, along with his highly-praised rendition of "Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me," and his finale song, "In This Moment."
Simon Fuller, creator of the popular TV series and chief executive and founder of 19 Entertainment Label Group, states, "It was fascinating to watch David's journey through Idol. He is a genuine pop star, and is a gifted singer who instantly won over a huge audience when he first appeared on the show. Since then, he has dealt with the pressure and the high level of expectation with real fortitude; he's given us some of the best performances of the season. Without question David Archuleta has a great future ahead of him."
Tom Carrabba, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Jive/Zomba Label Group comments, "David Archuleta has already shown the world that he is a star. He's a young, talented singer with wide appeal and we’re thrilled to have him join our roster."
David Archuleta is from Murray, Utah, a town outside Salt Lake City. He recently came to national attention and captured the hearts and imagination of a nation with several show-stopping performances on "American Idol."
Je remonte le topic pour la bien de la communauté. C'est maintenant officiel, Archie a été signé par Jive. Bon je suis peut-être le seul qui est intéressé par cette nouvelle, mais je laisserais pas ce topic sombrer dans le fin fond du forum!
