TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - While David Cook has been singing on American Idol, in Terre Haute his brother 36-year-old brother Adam Cook has been battling brain cancer.
Now Adam and his wife are traveling to Hollywood to see David sing on the hit television show. Cooks wife, Kendra, told News 10 that he is determined to make the trip. "Originally they [the doctors] wanted to bring him in [to the airport] on a gurney and he said ‘You know I have to show people that I'm strong and that I'm going to make this trip.'"
Quiet yet determined, Cook entered the terminal at Terre Haute International Airport. With the aid of just a cane, he made his way around the room, greeting family and friends before his flight.
The Cooks' Hollywood adventure is being made possible by a family friend, Darrick Scott, who helped get Clarian Health to donate a $40,000 medical flight. Doctor Michael Cravett, a physician with Lifeline and Clarian Health, told News 10 that Adam has "already outlived the normal prognosis for the type of cancer that he has. So when Darrick said, ‘We need to send him out to California as soon as we can,' we jumped on it."
Cook's wife says Adam's Idol contestant brother, David, is elated. "It's amazing," Kendra Cook told News 10. "Once I talked to David and told David 'Hey, your brother and I are coming out there' and just hearing his excitement..."
She says the brothers have been in constant contact via phone and text message as they prepare to reunite.
While David may be a star, Adam is also rising to new heights. Adams wife says he's fighting to live "everyday. Every minute of every day he's just been fighting to...just to keep going."
Clarian Health is also providing a full-time nurse and medic to travel with the couple. Terre Haute radio station B102.7 FM and donations from the Terre Haute community are providing accommodations for the Cooks and their medical staff.
There's no word yet on which song David Cook will sing although Kendra says Depeche Mode is one of Adam's favorite groups.

David Cook's Performance on American Idol
Lovin' Cook!
Doing a rendition of "Always Be My Baby," David Cook dominated tonight's American Idol show. What's more? He did it without a guitar in his hand which we've all become accustomed to in weeks gone by. Though somewhat pitchy for a moment in the beginning, David really made this song his very own creation. He had a great outfit, great voice and is guaranteed to be a great rock star!
David took this song and twisted it just enough that it even seemed to take on a new dark and deeper meaning. Every performance this guy does he pours his heart and soul into it and does his best to make it the best it can possibly be. Watching David Cook perform gets you excited to see what he's going to do the following week and in the music industry. There are so many opportunities for this guy that you almost hope he doesn't win the competition so that he can get snagged by a record company that will let him just go and release whatever else he's got stored up in that head of his.
He is and will continue to be a frontrunner because he WANTS this and it shows. He doesn't just want to win, he wants to win on his own merits and doesn't care what anyone thinks about him. When you compare that attitude to the other contestants, there is NO competition for David Cook as he is in a realm of his own in the American Idol competition. If he doesn't win this competition - no one should.

Guys dominate Mariah Carey week on ‘Idol’
Ladies come up short in doing justice to songstress’s tunes
COMMENTARY

Men dominate
This week's star was David Cook performing "Always Be My Baby." That's particularly impressive given what he has to deal with offstage, as his older brother reportedly is suffering from cancer and was scheduled to be in the audience this week, accompanied by nurses, to watch him perform. Cook didn't mention his brother, but he appeared more emotional than usual and the judges' comments brought him to tears.
Despite the challenges, Cook again managed to take an unexpected song and make it his own, even getting a standing ovation from Randy. "I think more than almost anyone on this show you're ready to make an album right now," he said.
Simon agreed. "It was like coming out of karaoke hell into a breath of fresh air. It was original, it was daring and it stood out. This is the sign of a great potential artist, someone who takes risks."

Terre Haute attorney cheers on ‘Idol’ brother
Friends, businesses help Adam Cook make trip despite medical condition
By Brian M. Boyce
The Tribune-Star
TERRE HAUTE — It was standing-room-only Tuesday night in Buffalo Wild Wings on U.S. 41, but they weren’t just there for the food.
“This is awesome!” exclaimed Darrick Scott, Vigo County councilman and Terre Haute’s assistant fire chief, surrounded by a room full of the family and friends of local attorney Adam Cook and his wife Kendra.
Adam’s brother David competed, and by the judges’ comments excelled, in Tuesday’s round of “American Idol,” singing Mariah Carey’s “You’ll Always be my Baby.”
“I thought he did something really different, and it made me really proud as a songwriter to know that the song can stand on its own,” Carey said of Cook’s performance, noting how he offered “a male perspective” of her song. And while Adam’s and Kendra’s children were there with family and friends wearing “Uncle David Rocks” T-shirts, for most of the room the night was more than just a battle for a recording contract.
Adam Cook, 36, is undergoing chemotherapy for his second diagnosis of brain cancer, which has spread to his spine. A plan to travel to California to see his brother perform was grounded earlier in the week when Adam’s doctors told him he could not fly commercially in his condition.
But through a coalition of friends and local businesses, an all-expenses-paid flight on a chartered medical jet complete with flight medic and nurse came through, along with lodging at the hotel across the street from the studio where “American Idol” is produced.
“I’d say that’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience!” shouted Crossroads Communications’ Julie Henricks, pointing to Adam and Kendra seated behind the judges and right next to “Desperate Housewives” star Terri Hatcher and daughter.
B102.7 paid for the hotel where the Cooks and the paramedics stayed, and Henricks noted that Adam and David stayed up Monday night playing euchre, a game for which it’s hard to find players west of the Mississippi.
Financial support for the project also came from LifeLine Critical Care Partners and Clarian Health Partners, and their T-shirts covered the room full of “Idol” gazers.
The crowd screamed each of the many times the Cook family popped onto the screen, but even the judges had to acknowledge David’s singing abilities.
“That song could be on a movie soundtrack right now,” judge Paula Abdul told him.
And even Simon Cowell, whose snarky remarks have made the reality television series famous, said Cook’s voice ascended from the “karaoke hell” to which he’s become accustomed, and “it stood out by a mile.”
“It was unbelievable. He was the best one up there by far,” said Cook family friend Lori Hoffman.
The Cooks were unavailable for comment after the competition as they were off to a cast party with the rest of the “American Idol” crew, Scott said.
So David will go on in the weekly competition as Adam and Kendra return to Terre Haute sometime Thursday, but the memories of their trip will last a lot longer.
