Ahhh!

I Owe It All To You.

J'adore I OWE IT ALL TO YOU
Ça sonne comme un rythme Latino mélangé avec un son légerement techno. Très original. Quelque chose que Gwen Stefani aurait pu faire.

Citation :2006 Canadian Idol Eva Avila will release her
debut Somewhere Else on Tuesday, November 14, 2006. The album fuses all of the
influences that make up Eva - mixing pop, R&B, Latin and dusty Motown-era soul
elements - and was produced by Rob Wells (Backstreet Boys, Nick Lachey, Matt
Dusk).
Eva worked closely with an impressive collection of collaborators on this
album including: Chantal Kreviazuk with "Meant To Fly" and Cyndi Lauper penned
and produced song "This Kind Of Love." Kara DioGuardi (Celine Dion, Kelly
Clarkson, Pussycat Dolls, Gwen Stefani), Christopher Ward (Hilary Duff, Amanda
Marshall) and Stargate - comprised of Tor Erik Hermansen and Mikkel S. Eriksen
(Rihanna, Beyonce, Christina Milian, Lil' Kim, Mario, Nelly) all contributed
their talents to the creation of Somewhere Else.
The official first single is the Latin-tinged, club-friendly bumper "I
Owe It All To You," which Eva describes as being one of her personal
favourites. "I am very sentimental about that track. It is the type of song
that clicks with everyone. We've all had those moments when we feel so
grateful to someone for what they have done for us and feel the need to reach
out to give them thanks."
Eva created the album with the goal of fully introducing her listeners to
the scope of her sound. "I hope it will give people a clearer idea of what I
am and a sense of where I'm going as an artist," she explains. "I think this
album shows off of all the different sides of my personality."
Eva will embark on a national concert tour to share the songs with her
fans in early 2007. She will also sing the Canadian national anthem at the
2006 Grey Cup in Winnipeg, MB on Sunday, November 19.

Citation :Who needs Idol? Not Eva Avila
By TARA MERRIN - Calgary Sun

Eva Avila is a firm believer in destiny.

So she didn't blink an eye when the Canadian Idol judges passed her by when she tried out for the first season of the popular TV series.

"At that moment, it was not meant to be," says Avila, 19, who not only made it past the auditions on this season's Idol, but won.

"I think it's perfect that it happened to me now at the age I am. I've gained a lot of experience and maturity -- I believe that really helped me deal with all of this."

As Avila sits in the lobby of the Delta Bow Valley Hotel in Calgary, she seems well composed for a girl whose debut album Somewhere Else (produced by Rob Wells) is set to be released Tuesday.

Perhaps it's because she's confident in the product -- having worked with singers Cindy Lauper and Chantal Kreviazuk on two of its tracks and picking every other song herself.

"It was so easy because I am a very intuitive person. When I hear a song, it's either 'yes' or 'no.' It's very clear to me," she says.

" I think it really gives people a great idea of who I am as an artist. There are a lot of love songs -- that's what I have always wanted to do -- but there are some really danceable and cluby songs, too."

Avila, who was raised in Gatineau, Que., by her Quebecois mother and Peruvian father, has been singing publicly since she was three-years-old.

At 16, she entered her first high-profile competition, the prestigious Jeune Diva du Quebec, and won.

She also performed as the opening act for some well-known French singers, taking the stage in front of crowds as large as 80,000 people.

But, despite all of her success, Avila was hesitant to try out when Canadian Idol rolled into Ottawa in the summer of 2006.

"I wasn't sure if it was the right path for me -- I was so afraid of the whole instant stardom and then you disappear into the night forever thing."

That all changed, however, on the morning of the auditions.

"I had a very, very strong gut feeling that morning -- something was telling me to go and audition. I am so glad I followed my intuition because I believe it was really, really meant to be. I have been waiting for this my whole life."

Aside from the usual perks of being the Idol -- fame, an album and a national tour -- Avila has been offered a modelling contract by Ford Models.

But it's not just her professional life that's benefited from the experience -- she found love on Idol with fellow-finalist Chad Doucette.

"It's really a hectic lifestyle so if the person you get along with understands what you are going through, a very good chemistry is created," she says, adding she's not sure why people tend to hook up on Idol. "It's just something you can't control. I mean, this was very unexpected."

Also unexpected was an invitation from the Canadian Football League, asking Avila to sing the national anthem at the Grey Cup game on Nov. 19.

"I am not going to go there for publicity for my new album, it's to honour our national anthem and to be a part of this really important national event.

"I feel very privileged to have even been asked," she says.

Citation :VANCOUVER -- "Six months ago I was working at a post office in Gatineau.''

Today, Eva Avila is dining with a silver (or at least weighty stainless steel) spoon at one of Vancouver's finer restaurants, talking about her debut CD, and openly dreaming about recording a duet with Celine Dion -- something that's still a fantasy, but definitely more probable now than it was six months ago.

"I'm at least one step closer to all those dreams,'' she says between healthy bites of a healthy breakfast of gourmet granola, yogurt and berries at Diva at the Met.

Despite initial reservations about even auditioning for Canadian Idol, Avila beat out thousands of other pop-star hopefuls for the title of Idol '06, and is now travelling across the country promoting her first full-length album, Somewhere Else, which hits stores Tuesday. She's also signed a contract with Ford Models, is planning a cross-Canada tour for early next year and is busy doing the requisite interviews and photo shoots that come with promoting an album.

While Avila's schedule sounds exhausting, and her sudden fame would be more than most 19-year-olds could handle, she seems to manage it all with astonishing perspective and gratitude.

"It's overwhelming in a good sense,'' she says. "Sometimes I have to give myself little flashbacks to what I was doing before because sometimes I do think, `Oh this is so much and I'm tired and I'm so busy and am I going to have any time to relax?' But then I remember six months ago when I was struggling. And now I have it all _ like every single element of my dream is coming true.''

Before her 2006 Idol audition, Avila was living and working in Gatineau, Que., singing at local venues and perpetually pondering how to translate her hometown success into an international recording career. She grew up wanting to be a singer, encouraged by her Peruvian musician father and Quebecois mother. (Avila speaks three languages fluently.)

She had auditioned for Idol when she was 16 and had been turned away by the judges, who told her she wasn't ready to compete on the big stage. And when the auditions rolled into Ottawa earlier this year, she was very reluctant to try out again.

"I was asking myself, `Is that really how I want my career to start? By becoming a star in 24 hours, basically? It was a matter of weeks and bam! You're a star,'' she says.

But, her friends and family talked her into auditioning, explaining that the exposure certainly wouldn't hurt her career, she'd likely meet plenty of important music industry types and she could always bail out if she really wanted to.

So, the morning the auditions were in town, she decided at the last minute to get in line. She made it past the producers and into the celebrity judges, but she'd made it that far the last time she'd auditioned, so she didn't get too excited.

Even when the judges handed her the "golden ticket,'' which meant she'd be going to Toronto for further auditions with about 200 other hopefuls, Avila still didn't let herself get optimistic because the judges had given her the ticket with some reservations.

"Jake Gold even said to me, `You're the kind of girl who always had it really easy in your life, aren't you?'' she recalls while nervously and absent-mindedly picking at her fingernails. "They were telling me that when I sing, I just throw it away. The were telling me I have to sing like I mean it. And I was singing my heart out. I was giving it my 150 per cent.

"I went out of there with my gold ticket and I was not even that happy. I was like, `They were on the verge of not giving this to me. I'm talentless. I'm nothing special.'''

Avila said it wasn't until she was in the top four that she realized she had a shot of winning the title.
And that's what she did, beating out runner-up Craig Sharpe and the thousands of others who had tried out.

Teams of songwriters had already been penning material for her first album and immediately started presenting it to the new young star. Within days, she found herself in the recording studio, alongside 80's pop icon Cyndi Lauper, who wrote and produced one of the tracks on the album.

"She's a very wild and eccentric person. She taught me a lot of stuff and is extremely talented ... She totally wanted my ideas and my input on the song. She was very receptive.''

Avila was able to choose which songs she wanted to record, and says the album is a good representation of herself --with its mix of pop, R&B, Latin and Motown influences -- even though it was recorded in three-and-a-half weeks.

For her next album, she says she would like to spend more time on it, and would like it to be in the same vein as Nelly Furtado's recent album Loose.

"I would love to do the Nelly thing. I'm a hip hop girl. I love urban music and R&B.''

For now though, Avila is concentrating on the current album, and looking forward to the holidays, when she'll be able to see her family and perhaps spend some time with her new-ish boyfriend -- fellow Idol contestant Chad Doucette.

First though, she tells her handler she needs a couple of minutes before her next interview to concentrate on eating her granola rather than talking.
