Citation :American Idol – Who’s Who In Hollywood
By LauraBelle on Feb 7, 2008
American Idol IINow that the American Idol auditions are finally over, it’s a little hard to remember who we’ve seen so far that moved on to Hollywood. They sent twenty or thirty every from each audition city, but we didn’t get to see, but a handful that were sent from each one. Here’s a little reminder of who we’ve seen up to this point to refresh your memory and get your ready for the Hollywood round next week.
Joey Catalano, 19, of Mays Landing, New Jersey. He came in singing some Maroon 5 after recently losing 200 pounds. Simon wasn’t sure he could be an American Idol, but all three judges voted him through to Hollywood, nonetheless.
Melanie Nyema, 26, Los Angeles, California. She used to sing backup for Taylor Hicks, and she got through to Hollywood after the judges agreed they were a little nonplussed and would like her to go the extra mile.
Junot Joyner 25, of Bowie, Maryland. He sang some Elton John, and Simon told him he had a good voice, as all three judges sent him through.
Jose Candelaria 23, of Bayonne, New Jersey. He sang with an obvious Hispanic accent that might just be too limiting for him to make it out of Hollywood.
Jonathan Baines, 17, of Smyrna, Delaware. Very good for a younger guy, with a great look.
Angela Martin, 26, from Chicago, Illinois. She got pregnant as a teenager, and her daughter now has Reyes Syndrome. Simon wanted her to “de-weddingize,” and her whole family was there to enjoy this with her.
Kristy Lee Cook, 23, of Selma, Oregon. She lives in a log cabin, fishing and kickboxing. Simon and Randy talked about her doing her thing in jello, but after she sang Amazing Grace, they were only talking about her voice.
Beth Stalker, 28, Grand Blanc, Michigan. She’s the stay-at-home mom that recorded an album of Sunday school songs when she was 4. Simon didn’t think she would stand out in a crowd, but both Paula and Randy liked her.
Chris Watson, 20, of Dover, Delaware. He was just finishing his Associate’s Degree, and Simon thought he reminded him of Babyface and that the “chicks would dig him.”
Brooke White, 24, of Van Nuys, California. She’s the nanny that is married, and has never watched an R rated movie. Simon wanted to bring her over to the dark side.
Jessica Brown, 24, of Longview, Texas. She’s another stay-at-home mom and used to abuse drugs. She felt if her story helped change one person’s life it would be worth it. She had great emotion when she sang.
Elaine Whitaker, 16, Tulsa, Oklahoma. She thought she looked like Carrie Underwood, and Simon told her she’s not as good as she thinks she is. She got three yeses, though.
Pia “Zpia” Easely, 24, of Chicago, Illinois. She’s the model and musician with the bleached blonde faux hawk. The judges didn’t think she had the usual demeanor of backup singer, thinking normally they’re like “whipped donkeys.”
Brandon Green, 21, from Lucedale, Mississippi. He was the guy that had the bag of peeled fingernails who wants to have a positive influence on America, and he seemed to only care what Simon thought, as he was “the man.”
Kayla Hatfield 24, of Campbell, Texas. She’s a mother of two that lives on a farm and lost part of her face in an accident. She spoke very demurely, but sang like Janis Joplin.
Kady Malloy, 18, of Houston, Texas. She sang impressions, but when pressed sang a great rendition of Unchained Melody.
Kyle Ensley, 21, of Valliant, Oklahoma. He wants to run for public office someday, and Simon shocked the other two judges by voting yes. They gave in and voted with Simon.
Colton Swon, 18, of Muskogee, Oklahoma. He’s in a band with his brother, and sang Boondocks. Simon felt there were too many other guys in bars like him. Colton then pretended to his parents like he didn’t make it through.
Drew Poppelreiter, 24, of Saltillo, Mississippi. He’s the farmer that said he’d give it all up for Hollywood. Simon hated him, Randy liked him, and Paula went back and forth, but gave in after being called “ma’am.”
Nina Shaw, 24, of Burleson, Texas. She’s from Kelly Clarkson’s hometown, and although Randy was the only one that initially liked her, she got it.
Tatiana Ostapowych, 24, of Venice, California. Simon told her she wasn’t as good as she thinks she is, and as she left, he called her obnoxious.
Perrie Cataldo, 27, of Phoenix Arizona. He’s the single dad, who admitted his son’s mother had gotten wrapped in in the wrong things before she died.
Michael Johns, 28, of of Los Angeles, California. He’s originally from Australia, but sang like he was in The Commitments.
Samantha Musa, 20, of Baldwin Park, California. Her sister came to the audition with her and threw the paper airplane into the audition with info that Simon was in her list of people to meet along with Barrack Obama and Oprah.
David Archuleta, 16, of Murray, Utah. He was the young boy that had a paralyzed vocal chord, yet still sounded very promising.
Carly Simpson, 23, of San Diego, California. She’s originally from Ireland, and made it through on an earlier season, but didn’t get her visa in time to go to Hollywood.
Amy Catherine Flynn, 16, of Knoxville, Tennessee. She’s the cheerleader that preaches about abstaining from sex. Simon thought L.A. might just change all that.
London Weidberg, 24, of Sullivan’s Island, North Carolina. She lost her dad to cancer a few years ago, but is deciding now to follow up on her dreams.
Michelle and Jeffrey Lampkin, 26 and 24, of Fort Mill and Newberry, South Carolina. They’re brother and sister, and he sounded much more promising than she did.
Jason Rich, 21, of Stout, Iowa. He works on his girlfriend’s father’s farm, and had quite a time forgetting the lyrics.
Rachel Wicker, 23, of Richmond, Missouri. She’s an arm-wrestling champion. Simon voted no, Randy didn’t like her yodel, but voted yes, and Paula eventually voted yes as well.
Samantha Sidley, 22, of Los Angeles, California. She is the one Ryan was judging instead of Paula, and didn’t like the way she was moving around. Paula came back in and put her through.
Elizabeth Erkert, 19, of Sheffield, Illinois. She originally said she was happy to have made it on America’s Next Top Model, forgetting which show she was on.
Denise Jackson, 17, of Madison, Wisconson, and Michael Sanfilippo, 19, of South Barrington, Illinois. We didn’t get to see any back story or hear what the judges said, but we did see them making it through.
Angelica Hunt, 17, of Kenosha, Wisconsin. She lives with her grandmother because of too many fights with her dad. She was told to stop trying to mimic records.
David Cook, 24, of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He watched Chris Daughtry’s audition, trying to figure out how he could do the same, but seemed more like a combination of Chris and Blake Lewis.
Leo Marlowe, 23, Charlotte, Iowa. His mom always said she raised the perfect homecoming queen, and it was a shame it wasn’t one of her daughters.
Robby Carrico, 25, from Melbourne, Florida. He was formerly in a boy band, but right now looks more like Bo Bice.
Ghaleb Emachah, 27, Miami, Florida. He’s originally from Venezuela, and sang a Marci Anthony song, after saying he’s a gypsum musician.
Corliss Smith and Brittany Wescott, both 20, from Jacksonville, Florida. They were the best friends, with one sounding much more ready for Idol than the other.
Suzanne Toon 21, of Clearwater, Florida. She hasn’t sung in three years since giving birth to her daughter, but didn’t really seem all that rusty, with the judges noticing her sultriness.
Ramiele Malubay, 19, from Miramar, Florida. She wanted to be the first Asian Idol, citing how far Filipino Jasmine Trias made it. Simon didn’t like her and thought Randy only did because she was small.
Syesha Mercado, 20, of Miami, Florida. Her dad struggled for a long time with drugs, but is now in rehab. Simon didn’t like her either, but the other two put her through.
Natashia Blach, 29, of Fort Collins, Colorado. gets through, as does Ilsy Lorena Pinot, 28, of Miami, Florida. We don’t get to see any back story or the judges’ comments.
Josh Jones, 26, of Atlanta, Georgia. He’s the glassworker who’s willing to chuck it all for a trip to Hollywood. Simon didn’t like the demonic thing he did with his eyes and made him turn around and face the back while he sang.
Asia Epperson, 18, of Joplin, Missouri. While she was on her way to the Idol auditions, her father died in an accident. She dedicated an emotional song to her dad and made it through.
Brooke Helvie, 18, of West Palm Beach, Florida. She’s the Miss South Florida Fair that even stands to audition like a pageant girl.
Alexandrea Lushington, 16, of Dougmlasville Georgia. Her 93 year old great grandmother was there to attend the auditions with her.
Amanda Obermeyer, 22, of Mulberry, Indiana. She’s the Harley-riding nurse that sang Janis Joplin.
Josiah Leming, 18, of Morristown, Tennessee. He’s the young guy that’s been living in his car since leaving home at 17, just to travel around and perform.
Amy Davis, 25, of Lowell, Indiana. She labeled herself as growing up lower than low class, with a single mother. They liked her possibilities.
Cardin Lee McKinney 20, of Nashville, Tennessee. She sang something from Dreamgirls, and the judges weren’t sure if she was contemporary enough.
Joanne Borgella, 25, of Hoboken, New Jersey. She once sang the National Anthem at Madison Square Garden and is a plus-size model.
Alicia Stelzl, 18, of Ontario, California. She was sent to learn a Dolly Parton song after not doing well with Celine Dion and did much better with Islands in the Stream.
Chikezie Eze, 22, of Inglewood, California. He auditioned last year, but Randy wasn’t feeling him. This year, he did much better.
Danny Noriega, 17, of Azusa, California. He also auditioned last year, but felt he buckled under the pressure. This year he got told he was one of the best, as they didn’t expect that voice to come from that look.
As in the past, we’ll have some make the final 24 that we haven’t even seen yet, but we’ve seen each of the previous six winners in the auditions. Which one of these will go on to win it all?
