From 'Idol' to Hog Day
Heather Cox to sing in Hillsborough

Emily Matchar, Staff Writer

Heather Cox was one of four North Carolinians to make the final 24 in season five.

HILLSBOROUGH - It's Hillsborough, not Hollywood, but Heather Cox is still a bit nervous about singing at Hog Day on Saturday.

"It's actually harder to sing in front of a small crowd than it is to sing in front of 40 million people," said the former "American Idol" contestant.

She'll be performing at the 25th anniversary of Hillsborough's Hog Day festival of all things porky.

Cox, from Jonesville in Yadkin County, made the top 24 on "Idol's" season five. She was one of four North Carolinians to do so that year. The other three -- Kellie Pickler, Chris Daughtry and Bucky Covington -- advanced further in the TV contest and now have successful albums out.

Cox, 23, is recording a pop-country album of her own. Otherwise, she is hanging around the homefront, spending time with her family.

"There is not much to do," she said of Jonesville, population 1,464. "I think we have a few stoplights."

She can't believe it has been almost two years since she flew to Denver to audition for "Idol."

"I was so nervous and thinking about backing out," said Cox, who has no formal vocal training.

She had spent a year practicing in secret after deciding to try out. "I would go out to the shed and sing in private," said Cox, a minister's daughter who grew up singing in church.

Her favorite judge on the show was Randy Jackson; Paula Abdul made weird comments about her eating habits, Cox said.

She also had a blast hanging out with the other contestants -- Rockingham native Covington would always jokingly try to buy teetotaling Cox a beer on flights to and from North Carolina.

"I still have Chris Daughtry's phone number in my cell phone," Cox said. "But he's so busy."

After a lazy start to the summer, Cox should be pretty busy herself in the coming months. She'll be singing at the Reality TV Convention in Nashville on June 30. Her album of "positive" pop-country should be out by the end of the year. She plans to build a house for herself, in the goat pasture behind her parents' property.

And she'd like to settle down and start a family soon, she said, expressing what may or may not be joking concern over being "old."

"I have had just some quagmire experiences in the dating department after 'American Idol,' " she said, groaning. "Therefore, Heather is extremely picky."

On Tour with American Idol: The Haley Scarnato Q&A

TV Guide: Are you enjoying the tour so far?
Haley Scarnato: Oh, yeah. The tour is so much fun.

TV Guide: What's the best part about being on the road?
Haley: Just that the stress is gone and now we're performing for our fans. That's a nice feeling.

TV Guide: Is it easier performing on tour than on TV?
Haley: Well, it's different. The tour is more about us going out there and doing our thing. The judges aren't there so we don't have to worry about what they're going to say. We go have fun.

TV Guide: Is that a relief for you since Simon was pretty hard on you?
Haley: Yes! It's definitely a relief.

TV Guide: Have you done any sightseeing?
Haley: A little bit. We always try to go shopping on our days off.  I bought some hats and some shirts and stuff, just comfortable clothes. Shopping in Chicago was especially fun.

TV Guide: Are you collecting anything from each city on the tour?
Haley: I am trying to get shot glasses in every city so I can have a shadow box of them. But it's not working out, so I'm going to have to go on the Internet to find the rest.

TV Guide: Do you just go to a bar in each city?
Haley: Normally, I'll try to get them in the gift shop in the hotel.

TV Guide: What's it like traveling in a bus with the other girls? Is anybody a neat freak or really messy?
Haley: No, we're all just kind of chill on the bus, so it kind of works out.

TV Guide: Did you bring anything to remind you of home?
Haley: I brought pictures and stuff, but I don't have it on my bunk because there's not that much room. They're still in my suitcase.

TV Guide: Has your fiancé come out to visit yet?
Haley: Yeah. He comes out here and there, so it works out.

TV Guide: Does he go on the bus with you?
Haley: No. He's not allowed. Nobody's allowed on the bus.

TV Guide: Is it tough to stay in touch when he's away?
Haley: Of course, but you just work through it.

TV Guide: How do you do that? E-mail?
Haley: I don't really do e-mail. My e-mail is really more just for business purposes.

TV Guide: Have fans done anything funny while you've been on stage?
Haley: Yeah. Somebody threw a stuffed animal — a frog, I think — at me during the show. And I caught it!

TV Guide: Have you gotten any more marriage proposals from your guy fans?
Haley: Not really! The weirdest thing is just [women saying], "My husband loves you!" or something like that. It's like, "Oh! OK. Thanks."

TV Guide: What can you say to that, right?
Haley: Right!

TV Guide: How do you like to relax when you have downtime during shows?
Haley: I love baths, so I take a lot of baths. Then I just sleep as much as I can.

TV Guide: Is it tough to sleep when your schedule is so hectic?
Haley: Sometimes I have a hard time, but then I watch TV. That helps me relax a bit.

TV Guide: What can't you live without on tour ?
Haley: I can't live without Dr Pepper — with a lot of ice. I don't know why, I just started to crave Dr Pepper lately.

TV Guide: How about Pop-Tarts?
Haley: I have a few here and there because they're always around. I like the strawberry-frosted ones.

TV Guide: Have you met any celebrities at your shows?
Haley: Ryan Cabrera came out....

TV Guide: Are you a fan?
Haley: Yeah. We got to know him pretty well through Brandon [Rogers]. They're friends.

TV Guide: What's the vibe like on the tour right now? Is everyone anxious to go home, or are you still enjoying the ride?
Haley: You pretty much just take it one day at a time and pace yourself as much as you can.

TV Guide: Do you have any pre- or post-show rituals?
Haley: I say a little prayer and stretch out a bit right before we go on stage.

TV Guide: You said earlier that you've pushed back your wedding to January. Have you done any planning on the road, or are you waiting until you get home?
Haley: I'm just going to have to wait. We might be postponing that date, too. It's just so crazy.

TV Guide: At least it's a good crazy, right?
Haley: Yeah. This is what I've been waiting for.

TV Guide: Have you looked at any wedding dresses online or gone shopping with the other girls?
Haley: I already picked out my dress and stuff.

TV Guide: Are you going to invite any of the other Idols to the wedding?
Haley: Yes — all of them!

TV Guide: Will any of them be in the wedding?
Haley: Mmm-hmm....

TV Guide: Gina just got engaged. Did you do anything to celebrate?
Haley: No, she went [off] with [her fiancé] Joe, so we haven't really had any time to do a girls' thing yet.

On Tour with American Idol: The Gina Glocksen Q&A

TV Guide: How's the tour going?
Gina Glocksen: I'm having an amazing time.

TV Guide: Is it different than you expected?
Gina: It's absolutely completely different than what I expected.

TV Guide: How so?
Gina: I was expecting to be tired all of the time and not get any sleep. Also, we're a really close group and I thought that the bad parts about us would come out on tour. But so far, nothing has happened. If anything, we're closer, so it's kind of weird.

TV Guide: What do you like to do when you're on the bus headed towards the next stop?
Gina: We'll just put in movies. We'll watch Friends or The Devil Wears Prada.

TV Guide: Has your boyfriend come out on tour yet?
Gina: He's actually here now. He came for all of the California shows. He's a high-school teacher, so he has his summers off.

TV Guide: So it's like he's a groupie, right?
Gina: [Laughs] Yeah, he's a groupie. Exactly.

TV Guide: You're lucky. A lot of people on the road complain that they miss their friends and family.
Gina: And mine get to come with me.... It is cool.

TV Guide: What do you do when you're not performing?
Gina: Every show we go to, there's a massage therapist. I definitely try to get into those as much as possible. But mostly I just try to get to know everyone who's involved with Idol. When people think of the Idol tour, they just think of the 10 Idols who are performing. But there's so many people. There's the backstage crew and the road staff....

TV Guide: Is there anyone in that group you've gotten to know well?
Gina: Yeah. There's this guy Matt. He's totally awesome. He's kind of spunky and unique like me, and we kind of enjoy the same things.

TV Guide: Have you given any thought to what you want to do when the tour is over? I'm sure you've been getting lots of offers.
Gina: I have not yet, actually.

TV Guide: Really?
Gina: Not yet. But I have a friend who's put together some songs for me. I listened to them for the first time the other day and I loved them, so I'm going to record them as soon as I go home.

TV Guide: How would you describe the songs?
Gina: They're very, very hard-rock songs. It's hard because [my friend has been] singing them and when he does it, it sounds like Alice in Chains, which is not the route I want to go.

TV Guide: I can't really see you doing that.
Gina: No. I'm going to try to make it as punk as possible.

TV Guide: Season 7 auditions are starting. What advice do you have for people who want to be where you are right now?
Gina: Not to get overwhelmed, because they are going to get overwhelmed going into an arena where there are thousands of people who are there for the same reason. They all have the same dream, so make yourself stand out in some possible way. Always smile. The judges smell fear.

TV Guide: Especially Simon?
Gina: Yeah. Well, there's a couple of rounds [with the producers of Idol] you have to make it through before you even see Randy, Simon and Paula. Also, don't sing Etta James. Don't sing Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston. They hear it all of the time, so they just get bored with it.

TV Guide: A lot of people sleep outside to audition. Any words of wisdom about camping out all night?
Gina: Just be ready for any kind of weather. Dress in layers. Bring an umbrella. Anything can happen. The first time I auditioned for the second season, it was pouring rain and I had nothing, so I was completely sick the next day.

TV Guide: At tour stops, do people recognize you in the mall?
Gina: Yeah. If I didn't have the red in my hair, no one would know who I was. When I wear a hat, no one knows who I am. They'll all go up to Blake or Jordin. They give me the camera and they'll be like, "Can you take a picture of us?" [Laughs]

TV Guide: Is it nice to be able to hide if you don't want to be recognized?
Gina: Yeah. The thing about me, though, is I love it. I love the attention. If someone comes up to me and asks to take a picture, I'll never brush them away. I'll take out my camera and ask for one, too. Remember the Crying Girl? She came up to me at the meet-and-greet after a show and was like [Mock sobs], "Will you take a picture with me?" She was bawling. I was like, "Only if you take one with me."

TV Guide: What's something you brought on the road with you that helps remind you of home?
Gina: Probably my laptop, because it stores all of my pictures of my cats. I have three — Jackson, Meat and Eat.

TV Guide: That's got to be hard, being away from your pets.
Gina: It's awful because when I come home, I know they're going to be so mad at me. When I came home from the show... they were mad so they slept in the kitchen for a good week. They punished me.

TV Guide: Did any celebrities come to your L.A. show?
Gina: Oh my gosh! Here's a story: Ryan Cabrera gave me a call!

TV Guide: Why?
Gina: We've been talking since I was on the show and he called me asking for tickets. It was like, "Wait a minute.... " It kind of hit me when I was on the phone and I started crying. Ryan Cabrera was calling me? To see me?

TV Guide: How did you meet Ryan? Did he come to an Idol taping?
Gina: He came to a taping when Brandon Rogers was in the top 12. They are friends, and we were invited to his house one day after a show. We just kept in touch.

TV Guide: Is he a nice guy?
Gina: He's awesome — and he's dating Lisa Marie Presley's daughter.

TV Guide: You've mentioned some things that have been tough about touring. So what's the best part?
Gina: Being able to perform every night is a dream. Usually, back home, I'd have a show once every two weeks. That's just not enough. I don't want to be a dental assistant for the rest of my life. I want to sing. So being able to do that every day and doing it in front of not just 200 people but in front of a couple thousand people, that's insane. It's always been a dream but I never thought it would come true this soon in my life.

On Tour with American Idol: The Melinda Doolittle Q&A

How's the tour going?
Melinda Doolittle: It is so much fun! We're having a blast.

Is it everything you hoped it would be?
Melinda: It is, and a lot more. I thought that maybe I knew what to expect because I had toured before, but it's like night and day for me. They pay such attention to detail.

What kind of details do they pay attention to?
Melinda: They take good care of us. They make sure that we're taken care of as far as food goes, of course. There's even a massage therapist out here!

No way. You have to tell me about that.
Melinda: Oh! It's like heaven on earth. They have one in every city. They lay you down on a table and they're like, "What area hurts?"

Wow.
Melinda: I know! I'm like, "This is great because I'm almost 30." Depending on what kind of time we have and what the day looks like, we may have 15 minutes or something like that, but it's totally worth it. But I've only gotten one and a half so far.

What's a "half" of a massage?
Melinda: Well, I had to run in and then I ended up having to go somewhere really quickly so we didn't really get started. I ended up having to go do some interviews, but it was totally fine because I at least got a good three minutes in. It was very good.

Are you getting any other fun perks on the tour? Green M&Ms or anything crazy on your bus?
Melinda: I don't think anything quite that specific, but if we want something like hot tea, they make sure that's available. We're kind of a low-maintenance group so we're just like, "Tea's good. Got any juice? We're good!"

I saw everyone drinking Jamba Juice at rehearsals. Are you still drinking that?
Melinda: Oh, during rehearsal times they went to Starbucks and Jamba Juice to start our day. We don't have that on tour, but we have all of the Pop-Tarts we can eat! [Pop-Tarts is a tour sponsor.]

That sounds good. Is that your favorite thing?
Melinda: It's maybe not my favorite, but some people love it.

Like who?
Melinda: Jordin loves Pop-Tarts, so she's kind of schooling me on that whole thing. I just got to taste the brown sugar [variety] and I'm loving that. We have an unlimited supply in case you want some.

Cool. When you're in L.A., I'll have to swing by for a Pop-Tart.
Melinda: There you go.

Are there any favorite foods among the singers?
Melinda: I love apple juice, that's my favorite thing. I can kind of OD on apple juice! I know that one of the girls loves salami, so sometimes there's a salami craving.

Seriously? I have to know who that is.
Melinda: I'm not telling you who it is. [Laughs] We have some interesting cravings every once in a while, just because we're chicks. The guys are pretty low-maintenance as far as that goes. "Is there food?" That's the main deal for the guys.

Do you have any pre- or post-show rituals?
Melinda: There are people who kind of wait around over by where our buses normally are, so after a show, we try to run out and say hi and take pictures and hug people and sign things if they want us to. That has been the most fun. We kind of hang out by the buses afterwards, and maybe even throw a football around. I learned how to throw a football last night. I'm very excited about that.

Who taught you?
Melinda: One of the [costumed] Pop-Tarts. [Laughs]

Hold on. Who dresses up like a Pop-Tart and why?
Melinda: There's a whole Pop-Tarts crew out here. I don't know which one this guy was. He might have been "strawberry flavored." But he taught me how to throw a football, so I was very excited.

Do you ever just sit there and think, "Is this really happening?"
Melinda: All the time! [In Nashville] my two best friends and I sat and talked and we were like, "What in the world has happened this year?" Last year at this time, we were just chilling, going to the movies, and now we're in a restaurant and people are coming up to the table!

So I'm guessing a lot of your friends and family will be coming to the show?
Melinda: I hope so. I know my mommy's coming out and, of course, my best friends and their husbands. And I have a couple more friends coming and people I've sung with. I'm just really excited about being home.

Are you doing anything special for the Nashville show, since it's your hometown?
Melinda: The cool thing about this show is it requires us to give 150 percent every night, so there's not really any extra that you give on a certain night. That creates a little less pressure when you get home.

Any funny fan stories? Has anything crazy happened yet?
Melinda: Well, last night I pointed to a guy in the audience because he had been so encouraging the whole night to me, screaming, "Melinda, you're doing a great job!" So, at the end of one of the songs, I pointed at him and his hands started shaking and then I didn't see him anymore. I don't know if he just fell. I'm not even sure what happened but I was like, "Oh no! I just hurt somebody." I just wanted to show him that I noticed, but then he just disappeared. I hope that he's OK.

Maybe if we print that, he'll read it and be excited. We can include a headline like "Melinda Causes Fan to Collapse."
Melinda: [Laughs] I hope not! He'd be embarrassed.

I'm totally kidding. Have you had a chance to decorate your bus bunk yet?
Melinda: I'm working on that right now. I have my own sheets and my own blanket and everything and my little stuffed animal that the Backups gave me. They're just the greatest support group ever.

Who are the Backups?
Melinda: It's a fan group. They call themselves Melinda's Backups, I guess because I was a backup singer. They are precious! So I have that in there and then, when I went to Africa with the first lady a couple of weeks ago, I met the Secret Service, and they gave me patches and pins and badges, everything you can think of.

You could be the next Jack Bauer after the tour ends.
Melinda: That is totally my goal. 24 is my favorite show.

You should ask Fox to send you some DVDs.
Melinda: I know! Fox kept me up to speed during the [American Idol season], but I'm missing 12 to 6 am. If I could just see that, I'd be a happy camper. I've kind of put a word in, so hopefully I'll get hooked up!

On Tour with American Idol: The Phil Stacey Q&A

TV Guide: How's the tour going?
Phil Stacey: I'm holding up. Actually, I'm having the time of my life. I just miss my family.

TV Guide: Have your wife and baby been out to visit?
Phil: They were on the road with me until Nashville. Now I haven't seen them for a few weeks. Then we'll meet up with them again in San Diego.

TV Guide: Has your wife sent you photos so you don't miss anything with the baby?
Phil: Yeah. McKayla started crawling while I was here. And when I saw her in Florida, my wife started feeding her solid food and I was like, "What are you doing?" She was like, "It's time, honey. We can do that now."

TV Guide: What are you doing to stay in touch on the road?
Phil: Other than talking on the phone, there's really not a whole lot I can do. I'm about to buy them an Apple computer so we can do iChat and actually see each other when we're not together. But hopefully they'll be with me for most of it from here on out.

TV Guide: What are you enjoying most about being on tour?
Phil: I enjoy being with my friends, Blake, Chris Rich[ardson], Chris Sligh, Sanjaya.... We're all on the bus together and we're having some good times. I really enjoy meeting the people who got us here and saying thank you to some of the more hardcore supporters who not only voted for you, but recruited all of their coworkers and friends to vote for you.

TV Guide: Any funny stories about fans you've met?
Phil: Well, I took Chris Sligh to my house in Jacksonville, Florida, when we were there. On our way to the auditorium — our wives were in the backseat — this car kept catching up with us. We looked over and it was this couple, and the wife was taking pictures of us while we were driving. It was funny.

TV Guide: Have you been playing a lot of Xbox on the tour bus?
Phil: Well, you know, we can't hook the Xbox up to the TV. [Laughs] So we all got our little individual personal PlayStation Portables. But usually, we just sit around and talk and hang out.

TV Guide: What are you snacking on backstage?
Phil: What am I not eating backstage. I've gained like 20 pounds since I've been here and we've only been on the road for two weeks! When we showed up in Arizona, for lunch they had jambalaya. Sometimes it will be Italian food or whatever. Then, of course, there are unhealthy chips that we obliterate before the show even starts. There's lots of bottled water to keep our voices healthy, and lots of Throat Coat.

TV Guide: All Melinda talked about were Pop-Tarts backstage.
Phil: Yeah. We actually went through a couple of shows without having any Pop-Tarts backstage. I was like, "Where's the Pop-Tarts? I need the Pop-Tarts!" I love them. The strawberry ones with frosting and sprinkles? I can't get enough of those. I'm kind of glad when people forget to bring the Pop-Tarts into our room because I will eat them. [Laughs] I'm also eating Snickers and the Reese's cups, and they don't even sponsor us. I just can't stop eating.

TV Guide: Any memorable moments onstage?
Phil: Yeah. I was singing "Into Your Love" with Gina Glocksen. We had just been backstage reading an article in the paper about Haley Scarnato's legs. After the song is over, I was like, "Ladies and gentlemen, Gina Glocksen!" That's when she usually says, "Phil Stacey!" but this time she said, "See, America? I have good legs, too!" and she just walked off the stage. That really made me laugh. Then, the night before last, we were in San Antonio and at the end of our duet, she just stopped singing and started laughing out loud into the microphone.

TV Guide: You've been to so many cities. Have you had a chance to do any sightseeing?
Phil: Not really. I think we've actually been out one time, in Houston. The guys and I basically spent the entire day at Guitar Center, each of us spending a small fortune on gear that we dragged along with us and are going to end up having to send home anyway because we don't have space for it on the bus.

TV Guide: Did you buy guitars?
Phil: A couple of people got guitars. I actually bought a large keyboard, but there's just no space for an 88-key keyboard on the bus. All of us guys are songwriters and while we're on the road, each of us has our own project studios. I use ProTools. I have an Apple with me so I'll take out that keyboard and record songwriting demos. Chris Richardson has his Martin acoustic guitar and Chris Sligh brings his bass along. What we'll do is basically share our assets so all of us can record good-quality song demos for our stuff.

TV Guide: Do you already have a record deal, or are you shopping a demo around?
Phil: There are things in the works. I haven't signed a recording contract yet but there are definitely different things I've been in discussions with.

TV Guide: What kind of music are you writing?
Phil: I've been writing a lot of country music. That's kind of my roots. I'm definitely influenced by gospel music. Some of the stuff that I'm writing is a little edgy, too. It's very rock-influenced country music, but some of it's really tame, too, and pretty traditional. It'll be interesting to see what the label ends up wanting to put on the record.

TV Guide: Have any of the other guys written for you?
Phil: Yeah! Chris Richardson and I have been writing a lot. He's just a phenomenal writer. He may end up with tracks on Jordin's record and Blake's record. Who knows, you know? Chris Sligh has written me some songs....

TV Guide: Last question: What did you bring on tour to remind you of home?
Phil: I have a picture of my two daughters that I actually carry with me everywhere. When I go in the dressing room, it goes in there with me, too.

On Tour with American Idol: The Chris Sligh Q&A

TV Guide: How is life in Omaha?
Chris Sligh: Omaha is actually pretty cool. We've got two days off here, the first time we've had two days off while on tour. I did a lot of scouring [to learn] more about the city and I bought a skateboard, so I've been skateboarding. It's great.

TV Guide: Where have you been skateboarding?
Chris: Just all over. Like, up to the old market here in Omaha, and back down to the hotel. It was a lot of fun. My legs are tired.

TV Guide: Are you a big skater? Do you do that at home, too?
Chris: I used to. I think the last time I skateboarded I was 16 or 17. I used to do a lot of half-pipe stuff.

TV Guide: Did your wife get worried when you told her you bought a new board?
Chris: No. She was just like, "How much did you spend?" I was like, "It was only $120. Come on!"

TV Guide: You should take her out with you next time.
Chris: Yeah. I'm going to pick her up and skateboard while I'm holding her. That won't scare her at all!

TV Guide: You could go on America's Got Talent with that trick.
Chris: I actually thought about going on America's Got Talent this year but the auditions happened too early.

TV Guide: Did you really think about it?
Chris: No. I don't feel like I want to whore myself out to another reality show. But my cousin was actually on America's Got Talent. He made the top 10. He was the guy that did the female impersonations with the dummy. We're a talented family, I'll tell you that much right now. [Laughs] We've got ventriloquists and OK singers. It's pretty awesome.

TV Guide: I heard you have a whole recording studio on tour with you. Is that true?
Chris: I do. I take it around with me mostly just to annoy everyone else. No, I'm working on demos and writing some songs and everything like that. I'm writing some songs for Phil [Stacey]'s album and I'm obviously writing songs for my album. It's going really, really well. I've written some stuff that I'm really excited about and getting ready for when we're actually allowed to record again.

TV Guide: You have to wait to record again?
Chris: We can record demos but we can't record for real until after the tour is over.

TV Guide: What kind of music have you been writing?
Chris: The record deal that I'm going to be signing, I'm going to make a pop-rock record. I hate comparing it to anything but, just to give people a reference, I'd kind of say later U2 — like "All That You Can't Leave Behind" — and stuff, like, that meets The Killers. I guess the best way to put it is I'm a big fan of emotional music that uses layers and very rhythmic stuff to put across the emotion. U2 is my favorite band of all time, so I guess it's definitely pretty U2 influenced.

TV Guide: That sounds really cool.
Chris: Yeah. I wish I [had still been on Idol] to meet them. Everybody gives me a hard time because, at the beginning of the season, they always ask you, "Is there anybody that you'd like to meet?" I said, "There's only two people where I would freak out. Bono and Paul McCartney." Paul McCartney, of course, was originally supposed to do the British Invasion week, then he backed out, and I was kind of disappointed about that. Then I got voted off and then we find out that Bono is going to be on the show!

TV Guide: Did you think about hanging out all night backstage to meet him?
Chris: I didn't know, and plus I was doing some interviews and stuff so I couldn't make it out to L.A. If I had known earlier, I probably would have come out to L.A. just so I could meet Bono.

TV Guide: You should ask the producers to make that up to you.
Chris: I know! But they don't really care about me because I came in 10th place.

TV Guide: Tenth out of thousands and thousands of people doesn't seem too shabby.
Chris: That's true. But they still don't care about me. [Laughs] [On tour] they're like, "OK, Blake and Jordin, what kind of Pop-Tarts do you want?" and they take the good flavors. Then they're like, "OK, Chris. You get the French toast."

TV Guide: You get the ones with no frosting.
Chris: Yeah. I'm like, "Gosh, guys. Come on! I came in 10th place out of thousands." But they're like, "You were 10th." They don't really do that, by the way.

TV Guide: Any funny stories about meeting fans on the road?
Chris: I've met some really interesting fans. I have this one fan who is awesome. She lives in Miami and she drove to the first four shows. Then she drove to Houston and she's driving up from Miami to Washington, D.C., to see me. It's crazy! Then she waits outside for me every time because we take the time to go outside and sign autographs for the people that wait out for us until 11:30. I go out there and Carmen is there every time. I would never do that. Maybe for Bono, but that's about it.

TV Guide: Maybe you're her Bono.
Chris: Maybe I am her Bono — except not as short and without the Irish accent.
