Kelly Clarkson live sounds exactly like she does on her albums -- thanks to a heavy reliance on back-up tracks.

But the "American Idol" winner needs to remember that when you pull the microphone away from your mouth, all singing should cease. At Monday night's Hershey show, it never missed a beat.

That didn't seem to bother the fans who welcomed the singer at sold-out Giant Center.

To be fair, on the slower ballads -- songs like "Because of You" and the Annie Lennox cover "Why?" -- when she wasn't relying on loud backing vocals, her voice was beautiful.

Rising from beneath the stage in a belly-baring brown shirt and low-slung black capri pants, Clarkson performed her hits "Miss Independent" and "Breakaway." For her current single, "Behind These Hazel Eyes," the pop star changed into a wedding dress to match the music video, which played on the screen behind the stage. The unnecessary attire looked out of place, especially with the giant black microphone pack attached to her back. Clarkson finished the show sporting a red cropped shirt.

Her time on "American Idol" might have perfected Clarkson's voice, but one thing the show failed to coach her on was the art of performance.

Stomping around the stage with bare feet, she looked like a programmed robot.

Every so often, she would wave aimlessly at the audience in an attempt to rally them but that proved only mildly successful. Another favorite move was pumping her left leg up and down to the beat of the music.

Perhaps life on the road is catching up with Clarkson. She seemed bored and tired. After the fourth song, she flatly proclaimed, "I'm having fun tonight."

The highlight of the night -- and the audience favorite -- was the hit single "Since U Been Gone." And, with this song, Clarkson was able to actively engage the audience, having them sing along and jump up and down.

The stage was set up to put all the focus on Clarkson, who had a spot at its front. With the blinding lights, the band was quickly forgotten.

After a lagging performance, the biggest disappointment for concertgoers might have been paying $39.50 for an hourlong set.

Et la réponse à cette insulte par Kelly :

Mojo: You think of American Idol and think to yourself, how is that show going to really find talent? They found, in their very first person that they picked, probably one of the most talented people that is out there in music today, who also is the most down to earth of people…Kelly Clarkson hung out with us yesterday (starts playing SUBG), and she was lookin’ hot too, wasn’t she? Wearing her little bikini…and she was out sunbathing when we showed up backstage at DTE Energy Music Theater (starts playing BTHE). What a body on her! I didn’t realize it because some people have said that she’s chubby…she’s not!

The Interview:

Mojo: Thank you for coming back on the show with us. We appreciate that.
Kelly: No, I love it!
Spike: We’re not as important…last time we had your Dateline cameras following us around.
Kelly: No, you know what’s funny…I didn’t even see that either. I did that whole thing and I
never even saw it.
Mojo: Real quick, before we get into this whole thing, we want to congratulate you…we found this website that listed you as the #1 artist for gay men.
Kelly: Oh!!!!
Mojo: Congratulations!
Kelly: Nice, nice!!!
Sara: Which is why we have Duchess here, because she won this morning…”Gay Idol”…she
sang your song…
Kelly: What did you sing?
Duchess: Breakaway…I sang Breakaway this morning.
Kelly: Oh, very cool!
Mojo: And she went to Lane Bryant and bought a new outfit too.
Kelly: Nice, nice.
Mojo: Would you give her just a taste of Breakaway?
Kelly: Oh, go, go…
Duchess sings a little bit of Breakaway…
Kelly: Very nice (laughing).
Spike: Now, Kelly, he was the best of the 8 that we had in, I just want you to know.
Kelly: No, I love it, I love it!
Mojo: Isn’t that cool though? You know, it’s weird, we were talking about it this morning…that you, Beyonce, and Cher, what do you guys have in common? You guys are the ones the gay men are into.
Kelly: And we’re all…I think Cher lived in Texas at one point too…so I think we’re all a little
Texas native too, yeah!
Mojo: You know those people in Texas love those gays, don’t they?
Kelly: Yes, yes!
Sara: Have you seen yourself in drag yet?
Kelly: Yes! Actually a guy I used to work with that did my hair…he’s dressed up and done A
Moment Like This. I love it…I think it’s great…I think it’s funny.
Spike: I often wonder, if you can see, because there’s the bright lights shining on you on stage and everything, but I ever wondered, do you get a chance to get to see what’s going on
in the front 10 rows or something…when you’re on stage, have you ever been distracted by…you look down in the middle of a song and you’re just completely thrown off by something goofy in the audience?
Kelly: Oh, wow…like every night…and then I’ll forget my words…and I’ll be like ehhhhh…then I’ll just be like oh well, and then I’ll just start back up again. Yeah, this tour…there were like 2 girls at one…I can’t remember where we were…maybe Utah or something…I don’t remember where we were, but anyway…they were naked, they had body paint…little shorts and body paint…that’s all they had on were little shorts…and they had “Kelly” like all over them, and I was like, I’m not a man, it’s not like I’m Steven Tyler…like you know I would expect that for a rock concert…like Steven Tyler, Van Halen…like something like that, but not for Kelly Clarkson (laughs). But whatever, that’s cool.
Mojo: And then right next to them was a mom and her 3 teenage daughters.
Kelly: I know! And one of my friends…or a couple of my friends came to a show, and one lady was just so upset at these two girls. You know, they were drinking, having a good time…you know, they my age or older…and they were just going at it or whatever. And her little 6 year olds were right next to them. And it was yeah…my friends were laughing the whole time. It’s so hard though, because my audience is so huge…like the range of it, yeah. So it’s…people are like, I mean yeah it’s family, but you know still there’s other people that are, you know, my age having a good time as well, so..
Mojo: Kelly Clarkson is with us.
Sara: And we have a new Kelly Clarkson controversy.
Kelly: Oh! What’s up?
Sara: Did you read this about yourself?
Kelly: Oh god, if you say…what are you going to say? Are you going to say what this lady lip synching thing? Yeah, is that a joke?
Mojo: Real quick, explain the story…
Sara: One lady in Pennsylvania…
Kelly: Kristen Lauerman! That’s her name!
Mojo: She’s lip synching her name right now!
Kelly: I won a singing competition! And they’re like, live on national television! And she comes to the show, and she said…it’s always like, I always get the backhanded compliments…it’s like “you know, she did such a great job…her voice was beautiful on the songs, you know, where it was just her and the piano…but then, you know, then by her backing tracks and her lip synching on the faster songs.” I was like “what!?” And then, like I sing a song completely a cappella…like hello!? How do you fake that!? Like, I don’t…Kristen, are you deaf? Like…yeah, she’s just trying to find something. But it’s just ridiculous to me.
Mojo: Have you talked to her…have you had an opportunity…
Kelly: No, but her number and e-mail got all over my sides, and I think my fans like attacked her. Because, it’s not fair…like my band and my backup singers that are singing live…like everybody is working their butt off on stage, as well as I…and so, you know, somebody could hate the show, someone could call me fat, do whatever you want…but my voice…like really, are you going to say I’m lip synching? Like, that kinda made me upset.
Mojo: I never thought about it that way…she won a singing competiton, for god’s sake!
Kelly: I know! Live! On live national television! And I’m just like “you’re an idiot!” Like, I yeah…
Mojo: She’s making a name for herself
Kelly: That’s what she’s doing…well, I just said it on air, so yeah…
Spike: By the way, Duchess over there…she lip sychs.
Mojo: Duchess, come on over here! Duchess, come on over here for a second! We’ve gotta get Duchess back in here! Have you ever seen, seriously…is this one of the best looking women you’ve ever seen?
Kelly: Pretty hot…I like the ta-ta’s…they’re very nice.
Mojo: Can you take your ta-ta’s out for Kelly so Kelly can see your ta-ta’s? Explain what your ta-ta’s are made out of.
Kelly: Oh my god!
Duchess: Birdseed.
Mojo: They’re birdseed.
Kelly: Are they really?
Duchess: That’s the nipple.
Kelly: Oh my god! That’s awesome!
Mojo: That’s the award, by the way, to win too…if you’re going to win any award at all, the fact that you’re the #1 artist for gay men.
Kelly: I think it’s awesome…they’re my favorite fans to watch too, in the audience. They’re just my favorites. They’re the ones that are so into it…like, just giving it all up, right there…
Sara: Two more rumors to clear up. One, one of your teachers is selling you out and said you came to school once wearing a flannel nightgown?
Kelly: Okay, that probably got kinda twisted, but…I came in my nightgown every day (laughs)…uh, my senior year, yeah, I didn’t even care. I didn’t even wanna be…I was just so past it…I was already working with colleges and doing music stuff, so I was like, eh…but, yeah, no, I did come in my pajamas a lot.
Sara: And then the other one, and you talked about this but…you seriously, no one explained the deodorant thing until…
Kelly: Oh God! No!
Mojo: What’s that, what’s that?
Kelly: No! Okay, when I was little, like I was with my mom alone like a lot or whatever. And she was always working and I was always home alone…and I never knew…I should not have ever said this…oh god…I didn’t know…I thought like deodorant was like, one of those things that people used like if you’re like, I don’t know… extra…I don’t know, like…you were like disgusting…I didn’t know it was like a daily thing for everyone…but this was like when I was in 5th, 6th grade…like this wasn’t like high school or anything. But now, I got like scarred by it…so now I’m like a hygiene freak.
Sara: Because we heard you say that your nickname…like people called you Smelly Kelly, but we thought it was a joke because it was rhyming.
Kelly: No, that’s what I thought! All growing up, that’s what I thought! And then, all of a sudden, we were in like AP Economics or something…I remember…it was AP Economics class…and one of my friends Chris was like “Yeah, remember we used to call you Smelly Kelly.” And I was like, “Yeah, because it rhymed.” And they were like, “No!” And I was like “What!?” And yeah, I didn’t get it.
Mojo: Kelly Clarkson with us right now. She’s ending her summer tour…just another month left in the states, then you head off to Europe, then you’re done for a little bit, right?
Kelly: Yeah, for a little bit…then we come…well, I’d like to say that, but we’ll probably come back and I’ll start working on the next record so…
Mojo: One of the things we haven’t heard from you is duets. We really haven’t heard you…
Kelly: I’m doing something…
Mojo: With who?
Kelly: With Rascal Flatts, actually. Country, yeah. I’m doing um, I don’t know if I can say the title of the song, but it’s really, really beautiful. It’s like, it’s amazingly beautiful. I heard this song and I cried, so…
Mojo: Well, good. Good to have you with us. Thanks so much for taking time.
Kelly: No, anytime man.
