"The most surprising part of the competition is how attached you become; not only to the other competitors, but to being on stage. I get that feeling even when there is no one in the audience, it gives me a sense of belonging and it's addictive."
Although Scarlett has enjoyed her time with Canadian Idol, she has found one aspect extremely challenging: being away from her family. "Not being able to share my happiness with them is the toughest part of the competition. They have supported me for as long as I can remember in my musical endeavors and not being able to have contact with them has been tough."
If there was an artist Scarlett could have the opportunity to meet in person she would choose Bob Marley. "I would love to meet Bob because he has done so much for the Jamaican culture; he paved a great path for a lot of entertainers. I would love to sit down and talk to him about his music and what influenced him to have such powerful lyrics."
It is her ability to take criticism and use it to help her improve that Scarlett believes has got her this far in the competition. But it is a career like that of singer Beyoncé that she aspires to. "She has been able to sustain her career and always be on top of the business," says Scarlett. "She puts out great music and I admire her drive."
In her spare time, Scarlett writes spoken word and enjoys watching Desperate Housewives. Her favourite movies include Oceans 11 and 12 and Wicker Park. She also likes experiencing new and exciting cuisine and could not give up her numerous pairs of shoes.
For Scarlett, the audition process was a very rewarding experience. "I learned that I can persevere through anything when I truly want it," she says. "Also, that the things we desire most in life are the things that we should fight the hardest for."
