Casey LeBlanc didn't win the Canadian Idol title in 2005, but thieves have pushed road signs honouring the singer in her New Brunswick hometown to the top of the charts.
Nackawic, her hometown of 1,500, celebrated LeBlanc's success last fall by naming a section of Route 105 "Casey's Way." She arrived at the dedication ceremony in a helicopter, and performed for a cheering crowd in a park.
The road sign disappeared just a week after it was erected, and its replacement was snatched soon after. A third replacement was stolen earlier this week.
Nancy Cronkite, Nackawic's chief administrative officer, says the town can't afford to keep replacing the $500 signs, which are about three metres long and a half metre wide.
"We're very disappointed in people. We did a lot of hard work, and that was something council wanted to do," Cronkite said, adding she hoped the people who took them would bring them back.
