After several weeks of on-air teaser promos, Fox has revealed the identities of the eight celebrities that will compete on Celebrity Duets, a new Simon Cowell-created reality competition series that will pair established recording stars with celebrities who work outside the music industry.
Hosted by Wayne Brady, Celebrity Duets' celebrity singers will be WWE wrestler Chris Jericho, actress Lucy Lawless, comedian and actor Cheech Marin, 2004 Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast Carly Patterson, television director and former The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star Alfonso Ribeiro, Queer Eye "Fab 5" member Jai Rodriguez, comedian and Queer as Folk star Hal Sparks, and actress Lea Thompson.
Each week that they remain in competition, Duets' celebrities (who will be competing to win a newly-revealed $100,000 cash prize for the charity of their choice) will be paired with a different established recording star. After choosing their songs and working with their recording artist partners, each of the celebrities will head out on stage and join their recording partner for a live duet performed in front of both a studio audience and an American Idol-like judging panel that will include legendary composer, arranger and producer David Foster.
Once each live Thursday night performance show ends, Duets home viewers will vote for their favorite celebrity performers and the celebrity who receives the fewest number of votes each week will be sent home during the show's Friday night results show broadcasts.
Last month, Fox announced that Cyndi Lauper, Smokey Robinson, Dionne Warwick, Randy Travis, Brian McKnight, Macy Gray, Patti LaBelle, Kenny Loggins, Chaka Khan, Richard Marx, Michael Bolton, Clint Black, and Aaron Neville were some of the recording stars that have agreed to appear on the show and perform alongside one of Celebrity Duets' celebrities. As part of its new celebrity cast announcement, Fox has also announced that Belinda Carlisle, Taylor Dayne, Peter Frampton, James Ingram, Wynonna Judd, and Lee Ann Womack have also joined the show's list of participating recording stars.
