For the 2011 season of television show So You Think You Can Dance, viewers can vote for their favorite contestants online. In past seasons, the show limited voting to toll-free phone lines. The SYTYCD producers felt that expanded voting opportunities would allow fans to get more involved in the show.
Executive producer and judge Nigel Lythgoe is especially enthusiastic about the new voting process. "I believe that interactivity is going to be a major part of programming in the future. We are at the cutting edge of dance, and it's important that we remain at the cutting edge of interactive technology."
So You Think You Can Dance To Include An Online Voting Option Starting Next Week image
Online voting for So You Think You Can Dance begins on Wednesday, June 15th, the first live show of the season. Viewers with Facebook accounts can vote on the SYTYCD website up to 50 times. Voting via toll-free phones lines and text messaging is unlimited.
Fox's decision to open up online voting on So You Think You Can Dance will be extremely beneficial to viewers with limited texting plans and those who don't have the time to wait for their phone calls to get through. The new voting process is likely to lead to increased viewer participation and better TV ratings.
