Ça avait effectivement commencé par une 3e place du Japonais et une 4e place du Canadien.
Puis La Presse et Radio-Canada annoncent officiellement que le Japonais avait été disqualifié suite à une protestation d'Athlétisme Canada qui avait montré le vidéo où le Japonais bouscule le Canadien pour le dépasser. Il avait été annoncé que la C.I.O. (ou la Fédération internationale d'athlétisme) avait accepté la protestation du Canada, que ce geste disqualifiait le Japonais et que le bronze était accordé au Canadien.
Puis ils annoncent que le Japon avait protesté cette disqualification (prévisible bien sûr) mais que c'était rejeté.
Que la médaille de bronze revenait au Canadien, que cette décision était finale et officielle.
Puis un autre volte face, ils annoncent que la disqualification du Japonais est annulée et que bousculade ou pas, le Canadien termine 4e.
Avant d'annoncer "officiellement" quoique ce soit, il me semble que serait bien que les médias vérifient davantage les informations, ou qu'ils annoncent uniquement que le dossier est présentement étudié par les autorités, mais qu'ils attendent les décisions finales avant de donner publiquement des nouvelles plus ou moins officielles. Cette succession de nouvelles contradictoires a parfois davantage ressemblé à une machine à rumeurs qu'à de l'information sérieuse.
Il y a un problème de communication ou de décisions quelque part, soit des médias soit des autorités olympiques. "Oui vous gagnez... non vous ne gagnez plus... oui vous regagnez... non vous ne regagnerez plus..."

Evan Dunfee sera en entrevue avec Alexandre Despatie à Radio-Canada plus tard dans l'avant-midi. Ils viennent de l'annoncer.
Il a publié un communiqué avisant qu'il accepte la décision d'attribuer le bronze au Japonais. Beaucoup de classe, bravo Evan Dunfee !
Statement from Evan Dunfee on today’s 50km race walk

What a day, 4th place at the Olympics in a new National Record. I couldn’t be more proud of my efforts out on the course today, I know that I left everything I possibly had out there and I can’t ask for anything more than that.
As many of your know after the race I was temporarily upgraded to the Bronze medal due to a disqualification of the Japanese athlete after an altercation we had around the 49km mark. Following the race our coaching staff asked for a review of the video at which point the track referee decided that an infraction had taken place.
Following that the Japanese, as is their right, filed an appeal. This afternoon we learned that this appeal was successful and he had been reinstated to the Bronze medal position.
It was then left for me to decide whether to pursue this further with an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Following my return to the village and my viewing of the incident I made the decision not to appeal, as I believe the right decision stood.
Not many people can understand the pain athletes are in three and a half hours into such a grueling race. I believe that both the Japanese athlete and myself got tangled up but what broke me was that I let it put me off mentally and once I lost that focus, my legs went to jello. Contact is part of our event, whether written or unwritten and is quite common, and I don’t believe that this was malicious or done with intent. Even if an appeal to CAS were successful I would not have been able to receive that medal with a clear conscience and it isn’t something I would have been proud of.
I will sleep soundly tonight, and for the rest of my life, knowing I made the right decision. I will never allow myself to be defined by the accolades I receive, rather the integrity I carry through life.
Finally, thank you to everyone who supported myself and my teammate Mathieu Bilodeau today. To see race walk receiving such a wide reception is absolutely amazing! My teammates and my competitors in this event never cease to inspire me and I hope that we have done the same to you today.

Dans ce 800 mètres où Melissa Bishop est arrivée 4e, les 2 premières ont immédiatement pris les devant laissant les sutres femmes loin derrière, et la 3e a dépassé Melissa vers la fin. Ça faisait bizarre de voir Melissa et les autres coureuses être battues par des athlètes si masculines. J'ai un peu de misère avec ça. Ce n'est pas une question d'apparences ni de beauté, mais le fait que si certaines coureuses sont si masculinisées pour la musculatureet l'ossature, cela ne leur donne-t-il pas des avantages pour la force et la rapidité ? Je me sentais que puisque c'est sensé être le 800 mètres féminin, Melissa ne devrait-elles pas être médaillée ?
